In memoriam

A rectangular faced ring cast with a pet’s ashes

Creating a bespoke piece of jewellery is a very special experience where you create something unique, a piece that incorporates the memories and being of a special person, loved one or pet. The piece does not simply house hair or fabric but creates a deep connection to memories that one holds dear and allows those memories to be held close, every day.

Ashes

Ashes may be used in a number of different ways in your memorial piece.

  1. They can be incorporated into the casting as shown in the photo on the left where the ashes are part of the casting process then are polished out leaving a texture.

  2. Ashes can be added beneath a transparent gemstone so that they will be visible when your piece is complete.

  3. They can be incorporated into a closed section beneath a stone, so they will be inside the pendant but not visible.

Receiving precious ashes.

Rest assured that ashes, hair or any item sent to be incorporated into jewellery is treated with the utmost respect. On receipt, the ashes or hair clippings are fully labelled then locked away until ready to be incorporated into your piece. Any unused ashes or hair will be returned with your finished jewellery.

Hair from the coat of a beloved pet dog is arranged behind this sparkling gemstone, chosen to match the eye colour of the dog.

Hair, fur and fibre

Hair, fur and fibre can be added to jewellery, usually on pendant form and usued in different ways.

  1. Longer lengths of hair can be added simply as a twist behind a stone.

  2. If the hair or fur is a sufficient length and texture it may be woven. This then sits almost like a flat fabric behind a transparent gemstone. If the hair is from the brushed coat of a pet, it is not usually long enough for weaving.

  3. Small hairs from a collar or brush can be placed behind a stone as in the photo (left).

Precious metals and gemstones used

Your jewellery can be created in solid Sterling silver. If gold is your choice, this can be white gold, 9ct or 18ct yellow gold.

In addition to my stock of gemstones I also source stones especially for your project as required for colour, size and cut. A deep orange quartz gem to match the colour of a pet dog’s eyes with an olive green stone to remember the eye colour of a beloved cat. You may require a pale or a vibrant coloured stone. For strength of stone I typically work with quartz, peridot, moissanite, sapphire or diamonds depending on colour required, size, shape and of course your budget.

How long does it take?

Each project time varies in timescale depending on complexity, but 6 weeks is a typical project timeline.

Losing a loved one or dear pet is a deeply difficult time.
